Ian Kreidich and Kelly Pratt are an adorable photographer duo that works for the Saint Louis Ballet. They travel around the United States to take pictures of dancers as they rehearse for performances. They’ve been around these dancers so much that they’ve mastered the art of capturing each moment.
Years later, Kreidich and Pratt were invited to take pictures of dancers and dogs. When they launched the book, Dancers and Dogs, in 2017, it received so much love from different parts of the world. A lot of people purchased copies of the book and followed them online.
Seeing that the book was so well-received by the public, the duo decided to launch it as a project in 2018. They called it the Muttcracker, which is a fun take from The Nutcracker, which is everyone’s holiday favorite. They partnered with the dancers from St. Louis Ballet and got them to pose with shelter dogs (and cats) from Stray Rescue of St. Louis that were searching for forever homes.
Most of these animals are survivors of neglect, abandon or abuse. They had almost zero chances of survival when they were turned over to the shelter. They were all better during the time of the shoot, but some of them needed time to warm up to their new human friends.
The dancers wore costumes from The Nutcracker for the photo shoot. When they arrived at the set, they hung out with the dogs and cats for a bit. Once their four-legged friends were comfortable with them, they danced in front of the camera as the photographers snapped away.
No animal left behind
Everyone’s hearts were filled with the fuzzies when Kreidich and Pratt uploaded the photos on their social media accounts. Thanks to the attention it received from everyone online, all dogs and cats featured in the series got adopted! The photographer duo and the ballerinas who joined the project were thrilled when they heard the news!
