A dental clinic’s staff member in Zanesville, Ohio makes people look forward to their appointments. His name is Dwight, and he is an adorable one-year-old Labradoodle.
A few days a week, Dwight works at Sulens Dental Studio, where his mom serves as a dental hygienist. His job is greeting anxious patients and helping them take fear off of their minds.
Dwight’s training as a therapy dog started when he was only 12 weeks old. To this day, he still practices with his trainers at the puppy school and dental office twice a week. According to his trainer, Jensen McVey, Dwight was born to be a therapy dog. He is so sweet and friendly to everyone.
Jensen said that Dwight is usually a calm cuddle bug. However, he can also get excited and enjoy playing when the time calls for it. Jensen and all his employees love working with Dwight. They are always happy to see him come in.
Studies say that around 36% of people have dental fear. So, Dwight is working hard to help change people’s perception of being on the dentist’s chair. The moment patients walk in, Dwight runs at the door to greet them with his big smile and wagging tail. He is also happy to comfort them during the procedure if the patient needs some extra help.
According to Jensen, Dwight helps in creating a fun experience for scared children. When the patients are nervous, Dwight gently lays, places his paw, and applies pressure on them. That way, they can pet him, which takes their mind off of being at the clinic. Aside from that, Dwight provides comfort for his fellow employees, too.
Of course, Dwight gets compensated for his hard work in the form of treats and monthly BarkBox. He also finds so much joy in spending time with his dental family and helping make people feel a bit better every day.
