Arnold is a 60-pound Weimaraner who suffers from separation anxiety. But thanks to Frank, his own emotional support dog, Arnold learned to be calm and confident once again.
Anxious Arnold meets friendly Frank
Arnold may look calm and brave from the outside, but the truth is, he has severe anxiety issues. The condition was brought about by a terrible encounter with a German shepherd when he was just a puppy. Arnold carried his anxiety as he was growing up, and it made him fearful and distrustful of others.
Arnold’s mom, Carolyn Manalis of Perth Australia, thought there must be something she could do to ease her dog’s anxiety. She thought about getting an emotional support dog for Arnold. While emotional support dogs are typically trained for humans, Carolyn thought there’s no reason why Arnold won’t benefit from getting one.
That’s when Frank entered Arnold’s life. Frank is a miniature dachshund, and he is a real goofball. Frank’s personality is oozing with friendliness, so it wasn’t difficult for him and Arnold to bond. Carolyn goes to say that Frank and Arnold’s friendship is “insanely beautiful.”
A beautiful relationship
Arnold and Frank’s friendship grew stronger each day. With Frank around, Arnold felt calmer. When Arnold cries, Frank will run to his side in a heartbeat. Frank’s presence gave Arnold reassurance that everything is okay. And thanks to Frank, Arnold has finally overcome his anxiety.
But it wasn’t only Arnold who’s been learning a thing or two from their friendship. Frank looks up to Arnold like his own dad, so whatever Arnold does, Frank imitates. By following Arnold’s example, Frank has learned to sit and wait while getting his leash put on, play with a ball, and bark at strangers.
Indeed, Arnold and Frank’s friendship is one-of-a-kind. They may be different in breed and size, but they don’t even know that. What they care about is that they have found a true friend with one another.
