A Pitbull named Willie spent seven years chained in a property in Virginia. Local Police raided the property because there had been reports of dogs dying there. When they found Willie, they took him to animal control. He was then put on the euthanasia list because of his health and behavior issues.
Fortunately, a rescue organization pulled Willie from animal control. The shelter workers nursed him back to health. Jill, a volunteer at the shelter, met him there and fostered him.
Willie was labeled as aggressive because he never learned to be friends with other dogs while growing up. Jill had to sign an agreement that he should keep his distance from other dogs.
Jill could not help but be worried about bringing Willie home. Although her family did not own a dog, they lived next door to a Husky named Mint, who loved going over to their house. The fence did not stop Mint from jumping into their yard. He would then wait by the door until someone would let him in.
When Willie arrived, Jill did not want any issues between the dogs. However, when they met through the fence, they seemed to like each other. Jill was relieved when they started to lick each other’s faces through the fence.
Willie and Mint played on either side of the fence. Mint really wanted to make friends with Willie. He even started bringing one of his toys over and tried to give it to him through the fence.
Jill knew that Willie and Mint wanted to be together, but it took some time before she felt confident enough to let Mint in. Their relationship blossomed, and they became best friends. Willie even started imitating Mint’s howls.
Willie’s life changed because of Mint. He learned how to be comfortable with other dogs and interact with them. He did not need to stay away anymore, thanks to his first-ever best friend.
