Argo, a Fresno Police Dog, struggled for his life after clashing with a dangerous offender. After being stabbed by a suspect and attacked by another canine, the Fresno Police Department feared losing one of its officers.
Officer Sturgeon and K9 Argo were assigned to investigate a report of a man holding a woman captive. The two came to the scene to seize the suspect after learning that he had charges pending for his arrest.
As authorities approached the suspect’s front door, Carlos Castanos ran out the back door and hopped the fence. Officer Argo, a K9 officer, was waiting for him, ready to stop the man in his tracks.
As he approached Castanos, the suspect allegedly pulled out a knife and began stabbing K9 Officer Argo. Not only did the suspect attack the dedicated K9, but so did his dog. Despite being injured by a deadly weapon and a furious dog, K9 Argo stayed engaged throughout the encounter.
After de-escalating the situation and rescuing Argo from the suspect and dog, Officer Sturgeon transported him to a local veterinary hospital for life-saving treatment. K9 Argo underwent emergency surgery to stop the bleeding and treat his wounds. Officer Sturgeon’s quick actions and the personnel at the animal ER gave Argo a chance of a full recovery.
Argo is currently resting at home, daydreaming that he will be able to return to work. His drain tubes from his wounds were recently removed by the vet, and he will have his stitches removed within the next week. So if all goes as planned, K9 Argo will be back to work in no time.
Officer Sturgeon might have been seriously injured in this fight if it hadn’t been for K9 Argo’s bravery. We respect Argo’s dedication to his job and wish him a speedy recovery.
